In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition.

The GeForce GTX 1060 has a 265 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 960. This results in the GeForce GTX 1060 providing 41.1 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce GTX 1060 has a 265 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 960. This results in the GeForce GTX 1060 providing 32.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GTX 1060 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 960, and so the GeForce GTX 1060 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 960.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce GTX 1060 has 2048 MB more video memory than the GTX 960, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce GTX 1060 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce GTX 1060 has 80 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 960, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 1060 is much better than the GTX 960.

The GeForce GTX 1060 has 1280 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 1060 is 2953 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 960 is 1803. The GeForce GTX 1060 having 1150 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce GTX 1060 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 960.

The GeForce GTX 1060 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 960. This means that the GeForce GTX 1060 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 960.

The GeForce GTX 1060 requires 120 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GeForce GTX 1060 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 960. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GTX 1060 is a Performance Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-400-A1 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU amd has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1506MHz and goes up to 1709MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
Benchmarks Indicate that GeForce GTX 1060 offers Performance around the Level of GeForce GTX 980. As such, GeForce GTX 1060 is almost twice as fast as GeForce GTX 960 and even AMD's Radeon RX 480 is beaten in over 5%.

System Suggestions
GeForce GTX 1060 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Overview
GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Performance GeForce GTX 960 2GB, created by Gigabyte.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 1216MHz, instead of 1127MHz and goes up to 1279MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock remains the same while the Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered market to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.

Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by Gigabyte's WINDFORCE 2X With Unique Blade Fan which is Equipped with two 90mm unique blade fan and three copper heat pipes. The airflow is spilt through the triangle design at the fan edge, and is guided smoothly through the fan by special 3D stripe curve design. At the same time, it effectively enhanced the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 8% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 960 2GB.
