In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 Asus OC 2GB Edition are very slightly better than the Nvidia Quadro Plex 7000.

The GTX 950 has a 528 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro Plex 7000, but the Quadro Plex 7000 has 80 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 950. As a result, the Quadro Plex 7000 exhibits a 20.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 950. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 950 has a 528 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro Plex 7000, but the Quadro Plex 7000 has 64 more Render Output Units than the GTX 950. As a result, the Quadro Plex 7000 exhibits a 19.8 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 950. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 950 was released over three years more recently than the Quadro Plex 7000, and so the GTX 950 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro Plex 7000 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The Quadro Plex 7000 has 10240 MB more video memory than the GTX 950, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro Plex 7000 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro Plex 7000 has 182.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 950, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro Plex 7000 is massively better than the GTX 950.

The GeForce GTX 950 Asus OC 2GB Edition has 768 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro Plex 7000 has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 950 is 1326 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro Plex 7000 is 1176. The GTX 950 having 150 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro Plex 7000 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 950 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro Plex 7000. This means that the GTX 950 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro Plex 7000.

The GeForce GTX 950 Asus OC 2GB Edition requires 75 Watts to run and the Quadro Plex 7000 requires 600 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GTX 950 and a PSU with at least 900 Watts for the Quadro Plex 7000. The Quadro Plex 7000 requires 525 Watts more than the GTX 950 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro Plex 7000 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 950.

Quadro Plex 7000 is an enthusiast professional card based on the 40nm, Fermi architecture.

It's based on 2 Fermi GF100 GPUs and thus offers 1024 Shader Processing Units, 128 TMUs and 96 ROPs, on a 768-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 574MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 750MHz. It has a L2 Cache of 1536KB and a rated board TDP of 600 Watts.

Despite exhibiting similarities to GeForce GTX 590, due to being under-clocked and because Quadro Plex 7000's drivers are only certified for professional applications only, its gaming performance is up to 10% slower than GeForce GTX 590.
