In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT are massively better than the Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Bay Trail).

The Graphics Mobile was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 9800M GT, and so the Graphics Mobile is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 9800M GT when running the latest games.

The GeForce 9800M GT has 512 MB video memory, but the Graphics Mobile does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Bay Trail) has 4 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 9800M GT has 96. However, the actual shader performance of the Graphics Mobile is 14 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 9800M GT is 120. The GeForce 9800M GT having 106 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce 9800M GT delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Graphics Mobile.

The Graphics Mobile transistor size technology is 43 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce 9800M GT. This means that the Graphics Mobile is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce 9800M GT.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Bay Trail) requires 10 Watts to run and the GeForce 9800M GT requires 65 Watts. The GeForce 9800M GT requires 55 Watts more than the Graphics Mobile to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce 9800M GT may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Graphics Mobile.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Bay Trail) are Integrated Graphics in some of Intel's Budget Processors.

The Bay Trail Core is a cut-down Ivy Bridge GPU and includes support for DirectX 11.0, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 3.0. The DirectX 11 Performance is however very lacking due to the very limited amount of shading units.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GT1 which offers 4 Shader Processing Units, 2 TMUs and 2 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 311MHz and goes up to 896MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 667MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Best Case Scenario, expect performance matching up the older Radeon HH 6320.
