In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 6500 are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce 7100.

The GeForce 7100 was released over a year more recently than the GeForce 6500, and so the GeForce 7100 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce 6500.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 7100 and the GeForce 6500 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GeForce 6500 has 0.5 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 7100, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 6500 is marginally better than the GeForce 7100.

The GeForce 7100 has 2 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 6500 has 4. The two GPUs are based on different architectures, but deliver an equivalent shader performance. To compare, we must continue to look at the memory bandwidth, Texture and Pixel Rates. In this case, we sadly do not have enough data in this area to complete the comparison.

We would recommend a PSU with at least 250 Watts for the GeForce 7100.
