In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro K4200 are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 Point of View TGT Beast 1GB Edition.

The GTX 460 has a 149 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K4200, but the Quadro K4200 has 56 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 460. As a result, the Quadro K4200 exhibits a 31.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 460. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 460 has a 149 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K4200 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 460 providing 4.8 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Quadro K4200 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 460, and so the Quadro K4200 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 460 when running the latest games.

The Quadro K4200 has 3072 MB more video memory than the GTX 460, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro K4200 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro K4200 has 44.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 460, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro K4200 is noticeably better than the GTX 460.

The GeForce GTX 460 Point of View TGT Beast 1GB Edition has 336 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro K4200 has 1344. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 460 is 575 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro K4200 is 949. The Quadro K4200 having 374 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Quadro K4200 delivers a significantly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 460.

The Quadro K4200 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 460. This means that the Quadro K4200 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 460. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the Quadro K4200 should consume less power than the GTX 460.

The GeForce GTX 460 Point of View TGT Beast 1GB Edition requires 160 Watts to run and the Quadro K4200 requires 108 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the GTX 460 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Quadro K4200. The GTX 460 requires 52 Watts more than the Quadro K4200 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 460 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Quadro K4200.
