In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6970M are noticeably better than the AMD Radeon R9 M365X 4GB.
The Radeon HD 6970M has a 55 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the R9 M365X. This results in the Radeon HD 6970M providing 7.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The Radeon HD 6970M has a 55 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the R9 M365X. This results in the Radeon HD 6970M providing 11.8 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The R9 M365X was released over three years more recently than the Radeon HD 6970M, and so the R9 M365X is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Radeon HD 6970M when running the latest games.
The R9 M365X has 2048 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 6970M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.
The Radeon HD 6970M has 51.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the R9 M365X, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 6970M is much better than the R9 M365X.
The Radeon R9 M365X 4GB has 640 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 6970M has 960. However, the actual shader performance of the R9 M365X is 340 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 6970M is 326. The R9 M365X having 14 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Radeon HD 6970M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The R9 M365X transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 6970M. This means that the R9 M365X is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 6970M.
The Radeon R9 M365X 4GB requires 50 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 6970M requires 75 Watts. The Radeon HD 6970M requires 25 Watts more than the R9 M365X to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Radeon HD 6970M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the R9 M365X.

Mini Review | Overview Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Generation of the Graphics Core Next Architecture (GCN). Architecture Radeon R9 M365X 4GB Features a GPU Codenamed Venus PRO which is a First Gen GCN GPU and is identical to the Cape GPU used on the Desktop Radeon R7 250X. Venus PRO has 10 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. GPU The Central Unit is Clocked at 625MHz. Memory: Speed The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 128-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1000MHz. Memory: Frame Buffer The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 4GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory. However, because the GPU itself is too weak to work under other circumstances in which 4GB of Memory are needed - such as 4K Gaming, a Large Frame Buffer is mostly a Gimmick. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 50W, it is suited for large laptops. Performance Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon R9 M265X. Performance is Comparable to the Desktop Radeon R7 250. System Suggestions Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Strong Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. | Radeon HD 6970M is a high-end GPU based on the 40nm Terrascale 2 architecture. It's based on the Barts Core (therefore related to Radeon HD 6850) and offers 980 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs on a 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. Its central clock runs at 680MHz and the memory clock operates at 900MHz. Despite being based on the same Core used on Radeon HD 6850, its performance is more comparable to Radeon HD 6790 due to being heavily underclocked. Most of today's modern games are playable at the highest settings but some exceptions will require lower resolutions or modest presets to be played optimally. |
