In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8870M are noticeably better than the AMD Radeon R9 M365X 4GB.

The Radeon HD 8870M has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the R9 M365X. This results in the Radeon HD 8870M providing 4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon HD 8870M has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed than the R9 M365X and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the Radeon HD 8870M providing 1.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The R9 M365X was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 8870M, and so the R9 M365X is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Radeon HD 8870M.

The R9 M365X has 2048 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 8870M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the Radeon HD 8870M has superior memory performance.

The Radeon HD 8870M has 8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the R9 M365X, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 8870M is marginally better than the R9 M365X.

Both the Radeon R9 M365X 4GB and the Radeon HD 8870M have 640 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the Radeon HD 8870M is 496 and by the R9 M365X is 496. Knowing that the shader performance of the Radeon HD 8870M is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The Radeon R9 M365X 4GB requires 50 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8870M requires 50 Watts. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Generation of the Graphics Core Next Architecture (GCN).

Architecture
Radeon R9 M365X 4GB Features a GPU Codenamed Venus PRO which is a First Gen GCN GPU and is identical to the Cape GPU used on the Desktop Radeon R7 250X.
Venus PRO has 10 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs.

GPU
The Central Unit is Clocked at 625MHz.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 128-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1000MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 4GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, because the GPU itself is too weak to work under other circumstances in which 4GB of Memory are needed - such as 4K Gaming, a Large Frame Buffer is mostly a Gimmick.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 50W, it is suited for large laptops.

Performance
Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon R9 M265X.
Performance is Comparable to the Desktop Radeon R7 250.

System Suggestions
Radeon R9 M365X 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Strong Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Overview
Radeon HD 8870M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Venus XT which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 725MHz and goes up to 775MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The memory clock operates at 1125MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 50W, it is suited for 17" or larger laptops.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance on average with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 670M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8870M.
