In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 740 EVGA Superclocked DS 4GB Edition are noticeably better than the Intel HD i7 6700K.
The GT 740 has a 709 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD i7 6700K. This results in the GT 740 providing 28.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GT 740 has a 709 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the HD i7 6700K. This results in the GT 740 providing 14.1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The HD i7 6700K was released over a year more recently than the GT 740, and so the HD i7 6700K is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GT 740.
The GT 740 has 4096 MB video memory, but the HD i7 6700K does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.
The HD i7 6700K has 24 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GT 740 EVGA Superclocked DS 4GB Edition has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i7 6700K is 221 and the actual shader performance of the GT 740 is 407. The GT 740 having 186 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 740 delivers a slightly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD i7 6700K.
The HD i7 6700K transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GT 740. This means that the HD i7 6700K is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GT 740.
The HD i7 6700K requires 91 Watts to run and the GeForce GT 740 EVGA Superclocked DS 4GB Edition requires 64 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the HD i7 6700K and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GT 740. The HD i7 6700K requires 27 Watts more than the GT 740 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD i7 6700K to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GT 740.

Mini Review | Overview Intel HD i7 6700K is the specific version of Intel HD Graphics 530 Desktop that is integrated in the Core i7-6700K Processor. Architecture The Skylake Core includes support for DirectX 12.1, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.4. Additionally, it also supports DDR4 Memory. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed GT2 which offers 24 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 350MHz and goes up to 1150MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1.7GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 1067MHz. It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system. Performance Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with a dedicated GeForce 920M. System Suggestions Intel HD i7 6700K is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We recommend a Decent Processor and 4GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. | GeForce GT 740 EVGA Superclocked DS 4GB Edition is a special edition of the middle-class GeForce GT 740. This edition comes with a custom cooling solution which will not yield any performance boost, as GeForce GT 740 does not benefit from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology. Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 993MHz to 1059MHz, while the memory clock was left untouched. Furthermore, the frame buffer was doubled to 4GB though this will not boost its performance and can be addressed as an extreme gimmick - insane marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product. Benchmarks indicate a performance boost of 3% and thus GeForce GTX 650 is still faster. |
