In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD i5 4260U are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT.

The HD i5 4260U was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 9800M GT, and so the HD i5 4260U is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 9800M GT when running the latest games.

The GeForce 9800M GT has 512 MB video memory, but the HD i5 4260U does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD i5 4260U has 40 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 9800M GT has 96. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i5 4260U is 160 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 9800M GT is 120. The HD i5 4260U having 40 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce 9800M GT performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The HD i5 4260U transistor size technology is 43 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce 9800M GT. This means that the HD i5 4260U is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce 9800M GT. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD i5 4260U should consume less power than the GeForce 9800M GT.

The HD i5 4260U requires 15 Watts to run and the GeForce 9800M GT requires 65 Watts. The GeForce 9800M GT requires 50 Watts more than the HD i5 4260U to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce 9800M GT may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD i5 4260U.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel HD i5 4260U is the Specific Version of Intel HD Graphics 5000 Mobile that is integrated in the Core i5-4260U Processor.

Architecture
The Haswell GT3 Core includes support for DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 4.0. Additionally, it also offers better Decoding Performance, when compared to its Predecessors.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GT3 which offers 40 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 200MHz and goes up to 1000MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 800MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance on average with a dedicated GeForce GT 435M.

System Suggestions
We recommend 4GB of RAM for a System with Intel HD i5 4260U.
