In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD i7 5557U are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT.

The HD i7 5557U was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 9800M GT, and so the HD i7 5557U is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 9800M GT when running the latest games.

The GeForce 9800M GT has 512 MB video memory, but the HD i7 5557U does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD i7 5557U has 48 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 9800M GT has 96. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i7 5557U is 422 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 9800M GT is 120. The HD i7 5557U having 302 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce 9800M GT performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The HD i7 5557U transistor size technology is 51 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce 9800M GT. This means that the HD i7 5557U is expected to run massively cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce 9800M GT.

The HD i7 5557U requires 28 Watts to run and the GeForce 9800M GT requires 65 Watts. The GeForce 9800M GT requires 37 Watts more than the HD i7 5557U to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce 9800M GT may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD i7 5557U.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel HD i7 5557U is the specific version of Intel Iris Graphics 6100 Mobile that is integrated in the Core I7-5557U Processor.

The Broadwell Core includes support for DirectX 11.2, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. Additionally, it also offers better Decoding Performance, when compared to its Predecessors.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GT3 which offers 48 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 300MHz and goes up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 933MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Gaming benchmarks put its performance slightly above a dedicated GeForce GT 720M.
