In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7850 XFX Core Edition.

The GTX 960 has a 381 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the HD 7850. This results in the GTX 960 providing 24.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 960 has a 381 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 7850 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 960 providing 12.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 960 was released over three years more recently than the HD 7850, and so the GTX 960 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 7850 when running the latest games.

While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 960 is 1803 and by the HD 7850 is 749. Knowing that the shader performance of the GTX 960 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition requires 120 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 7850 XFX Core Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 960 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 7850. The HD 7850 has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the GTX 960. The difference is significant enough that the HD 7850 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 960.

GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Performance GeForce GTX 960 2GB, created by Gigabyte.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 1216MHz, instead of 1127MHz and goes up to 1279MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock remains the same while the Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered market to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.

Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by Gigabyte's WINDFORCE 2X With Unique Blade Fan which is Equipped with two 90mm unique blade fan and three copper heat pipes. The airflow is spilt through the triangle design at the fan edge, and is guided smoothly through the fan by special 3D stripe curve design. At the same time, it effectively enhanced the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 8% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 960 2GB.
Radeon HD 7850 XFX Core Edition is a special edition of the powerful Radeon HD 7850. See the standard version for more information about it.
This edition features a special cooling system that allows twice as much heat dissipation when compared to the reference AMD cooling system but its performance is still the same, as there's no over-clocking out of the box.
