In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 920M 2GB are massively better than the Nvidia Geforce 405M.

The Geforce 405M has a 31 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce 920M 2GB, but the GeForce 920M 2GB has 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the Geforce 405M. As a result, the GeForce 920M 2GB exhibits a 13.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the Geforce 405M. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Geforce 405M has a 31 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce 920M 2GB, but the GeForce 920M 2GB has 4 more Render Output Units than the Geforce 405M. As a result, the GeForce 920M 2GB exhibits a 2.2 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the Geforce 405M. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce 920M 2GB was released over a year more recently than the Geforce 405M, and so the GeForce 920M 2GB is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce 920M 2GB has 1536 MB more video memory than the Geforce 405M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce 920M 2GB also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce 920M 2GB has 1.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Geforce 405M, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 920M 2GB is marginally better than the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce 920M 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Geforce 405M has 16. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 920M 2GB is 366 and the actual shader performance of the Geforce 405M is 22. The GeForce 920M 2GB having 344 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce 920M 2GB delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce 920M 2GB transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Geforce 405M. This means that the GeForce 920M 2GB is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce 920M 2GB requires 25 Watts to run and the Geforce 405M requires 14 Watts. The GeForce 920M 2GB requires 11 Watts more than the Geforce 405M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce 920M 2GB to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Geforce 405M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 920M 2GB is an Entry-Level Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Kepler Architecture.

This Graphics Card Equips the Kepler GK208 GPU which is essentially a power optimized version of the GK107 GPU. Whereas it still has a count of 2 Stream Multiprocessors, the bus-width has been cut in half to allow for even a smaller power consumption and consequently a cooler operating temperature.
Additionally, the GK208 GPU allows the Central Unit to reach a significant higher frequency, thanks to the Kepler Boost 2.0 Technology. The better the laptop's cooling system, the higher the frequency.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GK208-N16V-GM which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is Initially clocked at 575MHz and goes up to 954MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 900MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 25W, it is suited for small laptops.

GeForce 920M 2GB is essentially a slightly faster GeForce GT 735M and offers more or less comparable performance.

System Suggestions
We recommend a Modest Processor and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 920M 2GB.
GeForce 405M is the latest addition to the 400M Series released by NVIDIA in 2010-2012.
It's a renamed GeForce 315M, based on the GT218 architecture.
It only supports up to 512MB DDR3/GDDR3 memory type and DirectX 10.1. GeForce 405M is one of the weakest integrated GPUs with dedicated memory currently in the market, it has only 16 Pipelines and so, along with other factors, the performance is very limited.
Therefore, the most demanding games are probably unplayable even at the lowest settings while demanding games should run fluently at low settings. Less demanding games will run fluently from medium to high settings, depending on the amount of video memory required, since GeForce 405M only has up to 512MB.
