In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6850M are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce 920M 2GB.

The Radeon HD 6850M has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce 920M 2GB. This results in the Radeon HD 6850M providing 8.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon HD 6850M has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the GeForce 920M 2GB. This results in the Radeon HD 6850M providing 6.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce 920M 2GB was released over three years more recently than the Radeon HD 6850M, and so the GeForce 920M 2GB is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Radeon HD 6850M when running the latest games.

The GeForce 920M 2GB has 1024 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 6850M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The Radeon HD 6850M has 11.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 920M 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 6850M is slightly better than the GeForce 920M 2GB.

The GeForce 920M 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 6850M has 800. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 920M 2GB is 366 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 6850M is 270. The GeForce 920M 2GB having 96 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Radeon HD 6850M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce 920M 2GB transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 6850M. This means that the GeForce 920M 2GB is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 6850M. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GeForce 920M 2GB should consume less power than the Radeon HD 6850M.

The GeForce 920M 2GB requires 25 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 6850M requires 50 Watts. The Radeon HD 6850M requires 25 Watts more than the GeForce 920M 2GB to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Radeon HD 6850M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GeForce 920M 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 920M 2GB is an Entry-Level Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Kepler Architecture.

Architecture
This Graphics Card Equips the Kepler GK208 GPU which is essentially a power optimized version of the GK107 GPU. Whereas it still has a count of 2 Stream Multiprocessors, the bus-width has been cut in half to allow for even a smaller power consumption and consequently a cooler operating temperature.
Additionally, the GK208 GPU allows the Central Unit to reach a significant higher frequency, thanks to the Kepler Boost 2.0 Technology. The better the laptop's cooling system, the higher the frequency.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GK208-N16V-GM which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is Initially clocked at 575MHz and goes up to 954MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 900MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 25W, it is suited for small laptops.

Performance
GeForce 920M 2GB is essentially a slightly faster GeForce GT 735M and offers more or less comparable performance.

System Suggestions
We recommend a Modest Processor and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 920M 2GB.
Radeon HD 6850M is a high-end GPU based on the 40nm Terrascale 2 architecture.
It's based on the Juniper Core (therefore related to Radeon HD 6770) and offers 800 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs on a 128-bit memory interface. Though fast GDDR5 is supported, the most common version features standard DDR3 but comes higher clocked. Its central clock runs at 675MHz and the memory clock operates at 800MHz.
Compared to Radeon HD 6850M, its performance is considerably slower due to being paired with standard DDR3 and the power consumption should remain similar since GDDR5 is more energy efficient.
Using a 720p resolution, most of today's games are only playable at medium settings but with very fluent frame rates (45+).
