In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 5850 MSI Twin Frozr II 1GB Edition are noticeably better than the Nvidia Quadro 5000.

The HD 5850 has a 212 MHz higher core clock speed and 28 more Texture Mapping Units than the Quadro 5000. This results in the HD 5850 providing 29.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 5850 has a 212 MHz higher core clock speed but 8 fewer Render Output Units than the Quadro 5000. The lower ROP count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the HD 5850 manages to provide 2.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Quadro 5000 was released over a year more recently than the HD 5850, and so the Quadro 5000 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 5850.

The Quadro 5000 has 1536 MB more video memory than the HD 5850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The HD 5850 has 8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Quadro 5000, which means that the memory performance of the HD 5850 is marginally better than the Quadro 5000.

The Radeon HD 5850 MSI Twin Frozr II 1GB Edition has 1440 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro 5000 has 352. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 5850 is 522 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro 5000 is 361. The HD 5850 having 161 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 5850 delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Quadro 5000.

The Radeon HD 5850 MSI Twin Frozr II 1GB Edition requires 151 Watts to run and the Quadro 5000 requires 152 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 5850 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Quadro 5000. The Quadro 5000 requires 1 Watts more than the HD 5850 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Quadro 5000 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the HD 5850.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 5850 MSI Twin Frozr II 1GB Edition is a special edition of AMD's High-End RRadeon HD 5850, created by MSI.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer Remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System is now the Twin Frozr II Thermal Design, which is 12? cooler compared to reference cooling.

Without any overclocking out of the box, Radeon HD 5850 MSI Twin Frozr II 1GB Edition is as fast as the reference Radeon HD 5850.
Quadro 5000 is a high-end professional card based on the 40nm, Fermi architecture.

It's based on the Fermi GF100-850-A3 GPU and thus offers 352 Shader Processing Units, 44 TMUs and 40 ROPs, on a 320-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 513MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 750MHz. It has a L2 Cache of 512KB and a rated board TDP of 152 Watts.

Despite exhibiting similarities to GeForce GTX 560 Ti OEM, due to being under-clocked and because Quadro 5000's drivers are only certified for professional applications only, its gaming performance is up to 10% slower than GeForce GTX 560.
