In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 3-Way SLI are marginally better than the Nvidia Quadro Plex 7000.

The GTX 285 has a 74 MHz higher core clock speed and 208 more Texture Mapping Units than the Quadro Plex 7000. This results in the GTX 285 providing 144.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 285 has a 74 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro Plex 7000 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 285 providing 7.1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Quadro Plex 7000 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 285, and so the Quadro Plex 7000 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 285.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The Quadro Plex 7000 requires 600 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 285. We would recommend a PSU with at least 900 Watts for the Quadro Plex 7000, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the GTX 285.

Mini ReviewThe 3-Way SLI setup of GeForce GTX 285.Quadro Plex 7000 is an enthusiast professional card based on the 40nm, Fermi architecture.

It's based on 2 Fermi GF100 GPUs and thus offers 1024 Shader Processing Units, 128 TMUs and 96 ROPs, on a 768-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 574MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 750MHz. It has a L2 Cache of 1536KB and a rated board TDP of 600 Watts.

Despite exhibiting similarities to GeForce GTX 590, due to being under-clocked and because Quadro Plex 7000's drivers are only certified for professional applications only, its gaming performance is up to 10% slower than GeForce GTX 590.
