In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the GT 640 and the GT 740 are equal.

The GT 740 has a 13 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 640. This results in the GT 740 providing 17.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Middle-Class GeForce GT 640 v3, created by Zotac.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System has been replaced by Zotac's Silent Cooling Solution.

Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 640 v3.
GeForce GT 740 EVGA Superclocked DS 4GB Edition is a special edition of the middle-class GeForce GT 740.
This edition comes with a custom cooling solution which will not yield any performance boost, as GeForce GT 740 does not benefit from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 993MHz to 1059MHz, while the memory clock was left untouched.
Furthermore, the frame buffer was doubled to 4GB though this will not boost its performance and can be addressed as an extreme gimmick - insane marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.
Benchmarks indicate a performance boost of 3% and thus GeForce GTX 650 is still faster.
