In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon R7 7850K are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition.

The GT 640 has a 316 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon R7 7850K, but the Radeon R7 7850K has 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 640. As a result, the Radeon R7 7850K exhibits a 6.7 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GT 640. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GT 640 has a 316 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon R7 7850K and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GT 640 providing 2.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon R7 7850K was released less than a year after the GT 640, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GT 640 has 2048 MB video memory, but the Radeon R7 7850K does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon R7 7850K has 512. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 640 is 402 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon R7 7850K is 278. The GT 640 having 124 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 640 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon R7 7850K.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition requires 49 Watts to run and the Radeon R7 7850K requires 95 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GT 640 and a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Radeon R7 7850K. The Radeon R7 7850K requires 46 Watts more than the GT 640 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Radeon R7 7850K may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GT 640.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Middle-Class GeForce GT 640 v3, created by Zotac.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System has been replaced by Zotac's Silent Cooling Solution.

Performance
Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 640 v3.
Radeon R7 7850K is an integrated Graphics Card in the APU A10-7850K.

It is based on the Graphics Core Next Architecture and offers 512 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The memory bus-width will depend on whether or not the system's RAM is dual-channeled and the operating memory clock, on its frequency. Thus, it can be either 64-bit or 128-bit and up to 1067MHz.
The Graphics Card also shares the processor's L2 Cache of 4MB, reducing the impact of its low memory bandwidth.

Overall, the Graphics Card's performance depends a lot on the system configuration. Best case scenario, expect performance superior to Intel's powerful Iris Pro Graphics 5200 and almost similar to the dedicated Radeon HD 7750.
The card is thus suited for 720p gaming and most modern demanding games can be played at least on medium settings.
