In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8670D + 6670 Dual are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition.

The GT 640 has a 146 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8670D, but the HD 8670D has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 640. As a result, the HD 8670D exhibits a 26.5 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GT 640. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GT 640 has a 146 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8670D and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GT 640 providing 1.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GT 640 was released less than a year after the HD 8670D, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition and the Radeon HD 8670D + 6670 Dual have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GT 640 has 11.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 8670D, which means that the memory performance of the GT 640 is slightly better than the HD 8670D.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8670D + 6670 Dual has 864. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 640 is 402 and the actual shader performance of the HD 8670D is 534. The HD 8670D having 132 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 8670D delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GT 640.

The GT 640 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 8670D. This means that the GT 640 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 8670D.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition requires 49 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 8670D + 6670 Dual. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GT 640.

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Middle-Class GeForce GT 640 v3, created by Zotac.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System has been replaced by Zotac's Silent Cooling Solution.

Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 640 v3.
Radeon HD 8670D + 6670 Dual is a combination of a Radeon 8670D (integrated graphics) with a Radeon HD 6670 (dedicated).
This combination is called Asymmetric CrossFire and can also lead to Micro Stuttering.
Benchmarks indicate a 25% performance boost, when compared to a single Radeon HD 6670, but please note this combination might perform better or worse depending on the game!
