In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7750 Gigabyte OC 2GB DDR3 Edition are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition.

The GT 640 has a 196 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 7750, but the HD 7750 has 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 640. As a result, the HD 7750 exhibits a 10.5 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GT 640. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GT 640 has a 196 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 7750, but the HD 7750 has 8 more Render Output Units than the GT 640. As a result, the HD 7750 exhibits a 5.2 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GT 640. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GT 640 was released less than a year after the HD 7750, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition and the Radeon HD 7750 Gigabyte OC 2GB DDR3 Edition have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GT 640 has 14.5 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 7750, which means that the memory performance of the GT 640 is slightly better than the HD 7750.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7750 Gigabyte OC 2GB DDR3 Edition has 512. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 640 is 402 and the actual shader performance of the HD 7750 is 370. The GT 640 having 32 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the HD 7750 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition requires 49 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 7750 Gigabyte OC 2GB DDR3 Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GT 640 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 7750. The HD 7750 has been recommended a PSU with 50 Watts more than the GT 640. The difference is significant enough that the HD 7750 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GT 640.

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Middle-Class GeForce GT 640 v3, created by Zotac.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System has been replaced by Zotac's Silent Cooling Solution.

Performance
Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 640 v3 Zotac 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 640 v3.
Radeon HD 7750 Gigabyte OC 2GB DDR3 Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class Radeon HD 7750.
On this version, the core-clock was increased by 50MHz to 850MHz. This means this GPU will perform better than both GDDR5 and DDR3 versions at lower resolutions but it will still not be suitable for anything above 720p.
