In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M 2GB are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M.
The GTX 950M has a 79 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GTX 660M. This results in the GTX 950M providing 9.9 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GTX 950M has a 79 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 660M and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 950M providing 1.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The GTX 950M was released over a year more recently than the GeForce GTX 660M, and so the GTX 950M is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce GTX 660M.
The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB and the GeForce GTX 660M have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The GTX 950M has 16 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 660M, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 950M is slightly better than the GeForce GTX 660M.
The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB has 640 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 660M has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 950M is 858 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 660M is 365. The GTX 950M having 493 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 950M delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce GTX 660M.
The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB requires 50 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 660M requires 50 Watts. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

Mini Review | Overview GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the first variant of the Maxwell architecture. Architecture The first variant of the Maxwell Architecture succeeds the Kepler Architecture. Despite being also manufactured with a 28nm technology, it has an extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient. GPU It equips a GPU codenamed GM107-N16P-GT which has 5 SM activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The central unit runs at 914MHz and goes up to 993MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 1253MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. Features DirectX 12 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GameStream, G-SYNC, GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 50W, it may be equipped in average sized notebooks. Performance Because GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is just a higher clocked GeForce GTX 850M v2 2GB, its performance is only about 5% faster than its predecessors and so GeForce GTX 860M 2GB is still faster. Still, it still offers decent gaming at 1920x1080 and most modern games should run fluently at high settings. System Suggestions We recommend a strong processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce GTX 950M 2GB. | Overview GeForce GTX 660M is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Kepler Architecture. Architecture The Kepler Architecture was NVIDIA's big step to power efficiency. Each Stream Multiprocessor (SMX) now hosts 192 Shader Processing Units - against the 48 of older Fermi Architecture, and has been redesigned being now clocked at the same speed of the Central Unit. This means they are more energy efficient and will consequently lead to cooler operating temperatures. However, it also means they are weaker. It can be said that one Fermi SMX is as fast as 2 Kepler SMXs. Additionally, and not available in all GPUs, Kepler also introduced the Boost Clock Feature. The Boost Clock is an even higher Clock Speed activated when in gaming mode and becomes the effective speed of the GPU. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed GK107-N13E-GE-A2 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is initially clocked at 835MHz and goes up to 950MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 1000MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for SLI, Kepler Boost, Optimus, CUDA, OpenCL, DirectCompute, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 45W, it is suited for average sized laptops. Performance Gaming benchmarks indicate its performance is not too far from the desktop GeForce GTX 650. System Suggestions We recommend a decent processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GTX 660M. |
