In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M 2GB are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M 2GB.

The GTX 965M has a 10 MHz higher core clock speed and 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 950M. This results in the GTX 965M providing 22.5 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 965M has a 10 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 950M. This results in the GTX 965M providing 15 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 950M was released less than a year after the GTX 965M, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The memory bandwidth of the GeForce GTX 950M 2GB and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB are the same, which means the GTX 950M and the GTX 965M have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.

The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB has 640 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 950M is 858 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 965M is 1017. The GTX 965M having 159 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 965M delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 950M.

The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB requires 50 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB requires 70 Watts. The GTX 965M requires 20 Watts more than the GTX 950M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 965M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GTX 950M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the first variant of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
The first variant of the Maxwell Architecture succeeds the Kepler Architecture. Despite being also manufactured with a 28nm technology, it has an extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GM107-N16P-GT which has 5 SM activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The central unit runs at 914MHz and goes up to 993MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 1253MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

Features
DirectX 12 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GameStream, G-SYNC, GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 50W, it may be equipped in average sized notebooks.

Performance
Because GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is just a higher clocked GeForce GTX 850M v2 2GB, its performance is only about 5% faster than its predecessors and so GeForce GTX 860M 2GB is still faster.
Still, it still offers decent gaming at 1920x1080 and most modern games should run fluently at high settings.

System Suggestions
We recommend a strong processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce GTX 950M 2GB.
Overview
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB Equips the GPU Codenamed GM204-N16E-GS which is a Second Gen Maxwell GPU and has 8 SM activated. It offers 1024 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 924MHz and goes up to 950MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 128-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1253MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The Frame Buffer was doubled to 2GB. This is adequate for 1080p Gaming in most Games.

Power Consumption
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB has a Rated Board TDP of 50W.

Performance
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB proves to be incredible fast at resolutions up to 1920x1080. In fact, even at 1920x1080 it matches the older GeForce GTX 870M.
Above 1920x1080, GeForce GTX 965M 2GB's performance decreases significantly and becomes further distant from the higher positioned GeForce GTX 970M.
Nevertheless, all modern games should run comfortably at 1080p. It can be said its performance lies somewhere between a desktop GeForce GTX 660 and a Radeon R9 270 which are both powerful Graphics Cards.

System Suggestions
We Recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
