In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 470M SLI are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M 2GB.

The GTX 950M has a 379 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 470M, but the GTX 470M has 56 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 950M. As a result, the GTX 470M exhibits a 14.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 950M. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 950M has a 379 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 470M, but the GTX 470M has 32 more Render Output Units than the GTX 950M. As a result, the GTX 470M exhibits a 11.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 950M. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 950M was released over three years more recently than the GTX 470M, and so the GTX 950M is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 470M when running the latest games.

The GTX 470M has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 950M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 470M also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 470M has 40 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 950M, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 470M is noticeably better than the GTX 950M.

The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB has 640 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 470M SLI has 576. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 950M is 858 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 470M is 616. The GTX 950M having 242 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTX 470M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 950M transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 470M. This means that the GTX 950M is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 470M. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GTX 950M should consume less power than the GTX 470M.

The GeForce GTX 950M 2GB requires 50 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 470M SLI requires 150 Watts. The GTX 470M requires 100 Watts more than the GTX 950M to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 470M may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 950M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the first variant of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
The first variant of the Maxwell Architecture succeeds the Kepler Architecture. Despite being also manufactured with a 28nm technology, it has an extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GM107-N16P-GT which has 5 SM activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The central unit runs at 914MHz and goes up to 993MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 1253MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

Features
DirectX 12 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GameStream, G-SYNC, GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 50W, it may be equipped in average sized notebooks.

Performance
Because GeForce GTX 950M 2GB is just a higher clocked GeForce GTX 850M v2 2GB, its performance is only about 5% faster than its predecessors and so GeForce GTX 860M 2GB is still faster.
Still, it still offers decent gaming at 1920x1080 and most modern games should run fluently at high settings.

System Suggestions
We recommend a strong processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce GTX 950M 2GB.
GeForce GTX 470M SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 470M put together using NVIDIA'S SLI technology.
Check the page of GeForce GTX 470M to know more about its chip.
As usual, SLI relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, up to X% better than a single GeForce GTX 470M performing by itself but at times (depending whether or not the 3D game supports SLI or in the graphics driver) it performed worse than a single GeForce GTX 470M.
Most demanding games will run at the highest settings.
