In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 940M 2GB are significantly better than the Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M.

The GeForce 940M 2GB was released over three years more recently than the Quadro FX 3700M, and so the GeForce 940M 2GB is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro FX 3700M when running the latest games.

The GeForce 940M 2GB has 1024 MB more video memory than the Quadro FX 3700M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The Quadro FX 3700M has 35.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 940M 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro FX 3700M is noticeably better than the GeForce 940M 2GB.

The GeForce 940M 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro FX 3700M has 128. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 940M 2GB is 610 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro FX 3700M is 70. The GeForce 940M 2GB having 540 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro FX 3700M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce 940M 2GB transistor size technology is 37 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro FX 3700M. This means that the GeForce 940M 2GB is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The GeForce 940M 2GB requires 30 Watts to run and the Quadro FX 3700M requires 75 Watts. The Quadro FX 3700M requires 45 Watts more than the GeForce 940M 2GB to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro FX 3700M may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce 940M 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 940M 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Maxwell architecture.

The Maxwell architecture features many improvements and among them is the extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GM108-N16S-GT-S which has 3 SM activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1072MHz and goes up to 1176MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The Frame Buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1000MHz.

DirectX 11.2 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 30W, it will only be equipped in average sized notebooks.

GeForce 940M 2GB is essentially a higher-clocked GeForce 840M 2GB. Because of that, it is only slightly faster than its predecessor. Modern games are expected to run at Medium Settings while demanding games will required further reduced settings.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i3 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce 940M 2GB.
The Quadro® FX 3700M high-end mobile workstation graphics solution with its revolutionary unified architecture, delivers 1 GB memory, excellent image quality, and optimized visual computing application performance pushing the limits of a 17" mobile workstation.
