In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro K600 PNY 1GB Edition are marginally better than the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP.

The K600 PNY has a 208 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the HD 3850. This results in the K600 PNY providing 3.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The K600 PNY has a 208 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 3850 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the K600 PNY providing 3.3 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The K600 PNY was released over three years more recently than the HD 3850, and so the K600 PNY is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 3850 when running the latest games.

The K600 PNY has 512 MB more video memory than the HD 3850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The HD 3850 has 24.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the K600 PNY, which means that the memory performance of the HD 3850 is slightly better than the K600 PNY.

The Quadro K600 PNY 1GB Edition has 192 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the K600 PNY is 168 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3850 is 214. The HD 3850 having 46 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 3850 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the K600 PNY.

The K600 PNY transistor size technology is 27 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 3850. This means that the K600 PNY is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 3850. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the K600 PNY should consume less power than the HD 3850.

The Quadro K600 PNY 1GB Edition requires 41 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the K600 PNY and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850. The HD 3850 requires 34 Watts more than the K600 PNY to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD 3850 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the K600 PNY.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Quadro K600 PNY 1GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Professional Quadro K600, created by PNY.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock runs at 667MHz and the Frame Buffer was Doubled to 1GB. This is a gimmick and in no way benefits the GPU.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System remains the same.

Without Overclocking Out of The Box, Quadro K600 PNY 1GB Edition is as fast as the reference Quadro K600.
Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
