In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 7470.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 220 MHz higher core clock speed and 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 7470. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 25 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 220 MHz higher core clock speed and 20 more Render Output Units than the Radeon HD 7470. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 20.3 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon HD 7470 was released less than a year after the GTX 550 Ti, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GTX 550 Ti has 512 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 7470, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 550 Ti also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 550 Ti has 69.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 7470, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 550 Ti is much better than the Radeon HD 7470.

The Radeon HD 7470 has 160 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition has 192. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7470 is 60 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 550 Ti is 372. The GTX 550 Ti having 312 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 550 Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon HD 7470.

The Radeon HD 7470 requires 18 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Radeon HD 7470 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 550 Ti. The GTX 550 Ti has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the Radeon HD 7470. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 550 Ti may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Radeon HD 7470.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 7470 is an entry-level Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Terascale Architecture.

The Second variant of the Terascale 2 Architecture is still manufactured with a 40nm technology and despite allowing more Stream Cores, their design remains more or less the same compared to the first variant.

It equips a GPU codenamed Caicos XT which has 2 Compute Units activated and thus offers 160 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Operates at 750MHz.

The GPU accesses a 512MB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 64-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 900MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for HD3D, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, PowerPlay and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 18W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Radeon HD 7470 is a direct re-brand of Radeon HD 6450 v2.
Gaming benchmarks put its performance somewhat above of a GeForce GT 520.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 7470.
GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition is a special edition of the upper-middle-class GeForce GTX 550 Ti. See the standard edition's page for more information.
The new features include an increase in the clock from 900MHz to 970MHz and a new cooling system.
Benchmarks indicate a 4.5% performance boost when compared to the reference card..
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
