In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus 1GB Edition are noticeably better than the AMD Radeon HD 6670 v2 MSI 2GB Edition.

The HD 6670 has a 206 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the GTS 450. This results in the HD 6670 providing 4.9 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 6670 has a 206 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTS 450, but the GTS 450 has 8 more Render Output Units than the HD 6670. As a result, the GTS 450 exhibits a 3.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 6670. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTS 450 was released over a year more recently than the HD 6670, and so the GTS 450 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 6670.

The HD 6670 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTS 450, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the GTS 450 has superior memory performance.

The GTS 450 has 4.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 6670, which means that the memory performance of the GTS 450 is marginally better than the HD 6670.

The Radeon HD 6670 v2 MSI 2GB Edition has 480 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus 1GB Edition has 144. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6670 is 192 and the actual shader performance of the GTS 450 is 171. The HD 6670 having 21 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTS 450 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Radeon HD 6670 v2 MSI 2GB Edition requires 66 Watts to run and the GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus 1GB Edition requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 6670 and a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GTS 450. The GTS 450 requires 9 Watts more than the HD 6670 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTS 450 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the HD 6670.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 6670 v2 MSI 2GB Edition is a special edition of AMD's fast-middle-class Radeon HD 6670 v2, created by MSI.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock runs at 667MHz and the Frame Buffer was raised to 2GB. This is a gimmick and in no way benefits the GPU.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System remains the same.

Without Overclocking Out of The Box, Radeon HD 6670 v2 MSI 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference Radeon HD 6670 v2.
GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus 1GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's fast-middle-class GeForce GTS 450 v4, created by Asus.

Overclock Out of The Box
The Central unit is actually underclocked reducing the power consumption and thus reducing the heat produced. Also, the Graphics Card relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System was replaced by Asus's Dust Proof Fan, meaning the card runs cooler under load.

Because of being underclocked, GGeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus 1GB Edition is actually slower than the reference GeForce GTS 450 v4.
