In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 620 are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon HD 6450 Sapphire OC 512MB Edition.

The HD 6450 has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 620, but the GeForce GT 620 has 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 6450. As a result, the GeForce GT 620 exhibits a 5.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 6450. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 6450 has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 620 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the HD 6450 providing 0.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GT 620 was released over a year more recently than the HD 6450, and so the GeForce GT 620 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 6450.

The GeForce GT 620 has 512 MB more video memory than the HD 6450, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The HD 6450 has 11.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GT 620, which means that the memory performance of the HD 6450 is slightly better than the GeForce GT 620.

The Radeon HD 6450 Sapphire OC 512MB Edition has 160 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GT 620 has 96. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6450 is 60 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GT 620 is 134. The GeForce GT 620 having 74 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the HD 6450 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Radeon HD 6450 Sapphire OC 512MB Edition requires 18 Watts to run and the GeForce GT 620 requires 49 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the HD 6450 and a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GeForce GT 620. The GeForce GT 620 requires 31 Watts more than the HD 6450 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce GT 620 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 6450.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 6450 Sapphire OC 512MB Edition is a special edition of AMD's Entry-Level Radeon HD 6450, created by Sapphire.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 750MHz, instead of 625MHz.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer both remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System remains the same.

Benchmarks indicate a 11% performance over the reference Radeon HD 6450.
GeForce GT 620 is an Entry-Level Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

It equips a GPU codenamed Fermi GF108-100-KB-A1 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 700MHz.

The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 500MHz.

DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 49W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Gaming benchmarks put its performance is somewhat better than Radeon HD 7470.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 620.
