In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 5850 XFX Black 1GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 8670 (OEM).

The HD 8670 has a 235 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 5850, but the HD 5850 has 48 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 5850 exhibits a 31.1 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 8670. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 8670 has a 235 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 5850, but the HD 5850 has 24 more Render Output Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 5850 exhibits a 16.5 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 8670. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 8670 was released over a year more recently than the HD 5850, and so the HD 8670 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 5850.

The HD 8670 has 1024 MB more video memory than the HD 5850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The HD 5850 has 70.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 8670, which means that the memory performance of the HD 5850 is much better than the HD 8670.

The Radeon HD 5850 XFX Black 1GB Edition has 1440 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 5850 is 551 and the actual shader performance of the HD 8670 is 343. The HD 5850 having 208 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 5850 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 8670.

The HD 8670 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 5850. This means that the HD 8670 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 5850.

The Radeon HD 5850 XFX Black 1GB Edition requires 151 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 5850 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 8670. The HD 5850 requires 76 Watts more than the HD 8670 to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD 5850 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 8670.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 5850 XFX Black 1GB Edition is a special edition of AMD's High-End Radeon HD 5850 1GB, created by XFX.

Overclock Out of The Box
The Central Unit now runs at 765MHz, instead of 725MHz while the Memory Clock is now of 1125MHz.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System has been replaced by XFX's custom-designed Thermal Design, meaning the Graphics Card runs cooler under load.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 6% performance over the reference Radeon HD 5850 1GB.
Overview
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is an OEM Only, Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Oland XT which has 6 Compute Units activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1000MHz and goes up to 1050MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1150MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 60W, it requires at least a 400W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) Competes with GeForce GTX 750 but the latter is much faster and slightly more efficient.
It proves to be as fast as Radeon HD 7750.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Dual Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
