In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition are noticeably better than the Nvidia Quadro FX 5600.

The GTS 450 was released over three years more recently than the Quadro FX 5600, and so the GTS 450 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro FX 5600 when running the latest games.

The Quadro FX 5600 has 512 MB more video memory than the GTS 450, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro FX 5600 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro FX 5600 has 51.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTS 450, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro FX 5600 is much better than the GTS 450.

The GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition has 144 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro FX 5600 has 128. However, the actual shader performance of the GTS 450 is 171 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro FX 5600 is 77. The GTS 450 having 94 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro FX 5600 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTS 450 transistor size technology is 50 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro FX 5600. This means that the GTS 450 is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro FX 5600.

The GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition requires 75 Watts to run and the Quadro FX 5600 requires 171 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GTS 450 and a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the Quadro FX 5600. The Quadro FX 5600 requires 96 Watts more than the GTS 450 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro FX 5600 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTS 450.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's fast-middle-class GeForce GTS 450 v4, created by Asus.

Overclock Out of The Box
The Central unit is actually underclocked reducing the power consumption and thus reducing the heat produced. Also, the Graphics Card relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System was replaced by Asus's DirectCU Silent Solution which has flattened copper heat-pipe in contact with the GPU directly for a 0dB cooling experience.

Performance
Because of being underclocked, GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition is actually slower than the reference GeForce GTS 450 v4.
A revolutionary unified architecture, NVIDIA Quadro® FX 5600 and 4600 graphics boards deliver optimized application performance. Combining the industry's most advanced feature set, including largest frame buffers, with a C programming environment, Quadro solutions solve the most complex problems. The reference standard for Shader Model 4.0, Quadro FX 5600 and 4600 enables next generation applications with unprecedented image quality.
