In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 730 v3 Gigabyte 2GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 8470D.
The Radeon HD 8470D has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 730, but the GT 730 has 4 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 8470D. As a result, the GT 730 exhibits a 1.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the Radeon HD 8470D. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The Radeon HD 8470D has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 730 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the Radeon HD 8470D providing 0.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The GT 730 was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 8470D, and so the GT 730 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Radeon HD 8470D.
The GT 730 has 2048 MB video memory, but the Radeon HD 8470D does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.
The GeForce GT 730 v3 Gigabyte 2GB Edition has 96 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8470D has 192. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 730 is 134 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8470D is 100. The GT 730 having 34 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 730 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon HD 8470D.
The Radeon HD 8470D transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GT 730. This means that the Radeon HD 8470D is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GT 730.
The GeForce GT 730 v3 Gigabyte 2GB Edition requires 49 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8470D requires 65 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GT 730. The Radeon HD 8470D requires 16 Watts more than the GT 730 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Radeon HD 8470D to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GT 730.

Mini Review | GeForce GT 730 v3 Gigabyte 2GB Edition is a special edition of the middle-class GeForce GT 730 v3. This Edition comes with a special cooling solution which keeps the GPU cooler under load and no overclock out of the box. Performance-wise, it's as fast as the reference GeForce GT 730 v3. | Radeon HD 8470D is an embedded Graphics Card on the middle-class Richland APU A6-6400K. They offer 192 Shader Processing Units, 12 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The memory interface depends on whether or not the system's RAM is dual channelled. While the central unit runs at 800MHz, since the GFX doesn't have dedicated memory, the bandwidth will depend on the system ram speed which can be up to 1866MHz (the max speed supported by the CPU). Therefore, the max operating memory clock is 933MHz. Its performance is considerably worse than Intel HD 4600 and only very slightly better than previous Radeon HD 7540D. |
