In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS.

Both the GeForce 8700M GT and the GeForce 8600M GS were released at the same time, so are likely to be quite similar.

The GeForce 8700M GT and the GeForce 8600M GS have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GeForce 8700M GT has 3.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 8600M GS, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 8700M GT is marginally better than the GeForce 8600M GS.

The GeForce 8700M GT has 32 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 8600M GS has 16. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 8700M GT is 20 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 8600M GS is 10. The GeForce 8700M GT having 10 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce 8700M GT delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce 8600M GS.

The GeForce 8700M GT requires 29 Watts to run and the GeForce 8600M GS requires 18 Watts. The GeForce 8700M GT requires 11 Watts more than the GeForce 8600M GS to run. GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce 8700M GT is an upper-middle class level GPU part of the 8000M Series released by NVIDIA, in 2007.
Very demanding games games (e.g. Metro 2033, The Witcher 2) might only run on low settings (depending on the resolution used + DirectX version) and demanding games (e.g. Crysis 2, Skyrim V) are playable at medium settings smoothly. Moderate and less demanding games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops, will still require reduced settings to be played smoothly.
This card can be SLI'd for a serious gaming boost.
GeForce 8600M GS is a middle class level GPU part of the 8000M Series released by NVIDIA, in 2007.
Very demanding games (e.g. Metro 2033, The Witcher 2) are most certainly unplayable and demanding games (e.g. Crysis 2, Skyrim V) might only be playable on the lowest settings. Moderate and less demanding games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops, should be playable smoothly at Medium settings.
