In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Zotac 4GB Edition are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition.

The GTX 780 has 64 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 980, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 780 is much better than the GTX 980.

The GeForce GTX 980 Zotac 4GB Edition has 2048 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 980 is 3362 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 780 is 2380. The GTX 980 having 982 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTX 780 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce GTX 980 Zotac 4GB Edition requires 165 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 980 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 780. The GTX 780 has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the GTX 980. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 780 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 980.

Zotac didn't specify any Rated Board TDP. It should remain the same. A 500W PSU with at least 2 6-pin available recommended is required.

Release Price
GeForce GTX 980 Zotac 4GB Edition was released for $549.99. That's the same price of the reference Graphics Card.

Performance
Without a New Cooling Solution or overclocking out of the box, GeForce GTX 980 Zotac 4GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GTX 980 4GB. Therefore, Dual GeForce GTX 690 is still slightly faster.
GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 780.
This edition comes with a custom triple fan cooling solution which by itself should allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 780 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 863MHz to 980MHz while its boost clock is now of 1033MHz. The memory clock was also increased to 1550MHz.
Benchmarks indicate a 8% performance boost when compared to the reference card.
