In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD FirePro S9150 are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 465 MSI M2 Edition.

The FirePro S9150 has a 293 MHz higher core clock speed and 132 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 465. This results in the FirePro S9150 providing 131.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The FirePro S9150 has a 293 MHz higher core clock speed and 32 more Render Output Units than the GTX 465. This results in the FirePro S9150 providing 38.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The FirePro S9150 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 465, and so the FirePro S9150 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 465 when running the latest games.

The FirePro S9150 has 15360 MB more video memory than the GTX 465, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the FirePro S9150 also has superior memory performance overall.

The FirePro S9150 has 217.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 465, which means that the memory performance of the FirePro S9150 is massively better than the GTX 465.

The FirePro S9150 has 2816 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 465 MSI M2 Edition has 352. However, the actual shader performance of the FirePro S9150 is 2534 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 465 is 427. The FirePro S9150 having 2107 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the FirePro S9150 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 465.

The FirePro S9150 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 465. This means that the FirePro S9150 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 465.

The FirePro S9150 requires 235 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 465 MSI M2 Edition.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewFirePro S9150 is a server GPU based on the 28nm GCN architecture.

It's based on the Hawaii XT Core (same used on Radeon R9 290X) and therefore offers 2816 Shader Processing Units, 176 TMUs and 64 ROPs on a 512-bit interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit is clocked 900MHz while the memory clock operates at 1250MHZ.

Compared to Radeon R9 290X, its central unit is slightly lower and overall its gaming performance is lower than Radeon R9 290X because the latter benefits from certified gaming drivers which unlock the GCN's architecture potential while FirePro S9150 is made for professional applications. Therefore, expect its performance to be between 10% and 15% worse than Radeon R9 290X.
GeForce GTX 465 MSI M2 Edition is a special edition of GeForce GTX 465 that features a new cooling system which doesn't affect performance directly, meaning its performance is on level with the reference GeForce GTX 465.
