In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 2400 XT are marginally better than the Nvidia Quadro4 780 XGL.

The HD 2400 XT has a 375 MHz higher core clock speed but 4 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the Quadro4 780 XGL. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the HD 2400 XT manages to provide 0.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since the HD 2400 XT supports up to DirectX 10.

The HD 2400 XT has a 375 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro4 780 XGL and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the HD 2400 XT providing 1.5 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. The HD 2400 XT supports up to DirectX 10, so pixeling performance is not particularly relevant for this GPU. It would be relevant for comparing the Quadro4 780 XGL with other old GPUs, but in this case it is probably safe to say that the HD 2400 XT is superior.

The HD 2400 XT was released over three years more recently than the Quadro4 780 XGL, and so the HD 2400 XT is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro4 780 XGL when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The HD 2400 XT has 128 MB more video memory than the Quadro4 780 XGL, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 2400 XT also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 2400 XT has 3.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Quadro4 780 XGL, which means that the memory performance of the HD 2400 XT is marginally better than the Quadro4 780 XGL.

The Quadro4 780 XGL has 4 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 2400 XT has 40. However, the actual shader performance of the Quadro4 780 XGL is 1 and the actual shader performance of the HD 2400 XT is 26. The HD 2400 XT having 25 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 2400 XT delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Quadro4 780 XGL.

The HD 2400 XT transistor size technology is 85 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro4 780 XGL. This means that the HD 2400 XT is expected to run massively cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro4 780 XGL. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD 2400 XT should consume less power than the Quadro4 780 XGL.

The Radeon HD 2400 XT requires 25 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Quadro4 780 XGL.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewQuadro4 780 XGL is a professional graphics card that will deliver similar gaming performance to GeForce4 Ti 4400, though worse due to the lack of support for gaming drivers.Radeon HD 2400 XT is an entry-level GPU based on the 65nm variant of the second unified shader architecture, R600.
It's based on the RV610 Core and offers 40 Shader Processing Units, 4 TMUs and 4 ROPs a 64-bit memory interface of standard GDDR3. The central unit runs at 650MHz and the memory clock runs at up to 500MHz. It's therefore a higher clocked Radeon HD 2400 Pro, paired with GDDR3 and should be considerably faster.
Today's games only playable at unattractive resolutions and using low (likely) or medium (maybe) presets. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
