In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 3-way SLI are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 Leadtek Hurricane III Edition.

The GTX 770 has a 358 MHz higher core clock speed but 52 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 480. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 770 manages to provide 9.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 770 has a 358 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 480, but the GTX 480 has 112 more Render Output Units than the GTX 770. As a result, the GTX 480 exhibits a 67 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 770. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 770 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 480, and so the GTX 770 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 480 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 770 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 480, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GTX 480 has 130.5 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 770, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 480 is massively better than the GTX 770.

The GeForce GTX 480 3-way SLI has 1440 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 770 Leadtek Hurricane III Edition has 1536. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 480 is 2019 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 770 is 1706. The GTX 480 having 313 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 480 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 770.

The GTX 770 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 480. This means that the GTX 770 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 480.

The GeForce GTX 480 3-way SLI requires 750 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 770 Leadtek Hurricane III Edition requires 230 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 1000 Watts for the GTX 480 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 770. The GTX 480 requires 520 Watts more than the GTX 770 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 480 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 770.

This edition comes with a custom triple fan cooling solution which by itself should allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 770 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 1046MHz to 1059MHz while its boost clock is now of 1111MHz. The memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance boost when compared to the reference card.
Note: This card has 2GB and 4GB versions. Both offer the same performance.
