In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 740 v2 Inno3D iChill HerculeZ 2000 1GB Edition are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition.

The GTX 650 has a 10 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the GT 740. This results in the GTX 650 providing 0.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 650 has a 10 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 740 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 650 providing 0.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GT 740 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 650, and so the GT 740 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 650.

The GT 740 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 650, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GT 740 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GT 740 has 3.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 650, which means that the memory performance of the GT 740 is marginally better than the GTX 650.

Both the GeForce GT 740 v2 Inno3D iChill HerculeZ 2000 1GB Edition and the GeForce GTX 650 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition have 384 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 650 is 426 and by the GT 740 is 426. Knowing that the shader performance of the GTX 650 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The GeForce GT 740 v2 Inno3D iChill HerculeZ 2000 1GB Edition requires 64 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 650 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GT 740 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 650. The two GPUs have been recommended a PSU with the same amount of wattage. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GT 740 v2 Inno3D iChill HerculeZ 2000 1GB Edition is a special edition of the middle-class GeForce GT 740 v2.
This edition comes with a custom cooling solution which will not yield any performance boost, as GeForce GT 740 v2 does not benefit from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 993MHz to 1100MHz, while the operating memory clock was increased to 1300MHz.
Benchmarks indicate an extreme performance boost of up to 11% making it almost 7% faster than a GeForce GTX 650.
GeForce GTX 650 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class GeForce GTX 650 1GB.
This special edition comes overclocked out of the box to 1110MHz and features a custom-designed 10 cm cooler.
Benchmarks indicate a 4% performance boost when compared to the reference card and so this GPU is suitable for medium to high settings on most demanding games but not with extreme resolutions.
