In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 PNY 2GB Edition are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 740 v2 EVGA FTW 1GB Edition.

The GT 740 has a 287 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 670, but the GTX 670 has 80 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 740. As a result, the GTX 670 exhibits a 64 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GT 740. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GT 740 has a 287 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 670, but the GTX 670 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GT 740. As a result, the GTX 670 exhibits a 10.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GT 740. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GT 740 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 670, and so the GT 740 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 670.

The GTX 670 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GT 740, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 670 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 670 has 112.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GT 740, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 670 is massively better than the GT 740.

The GeForce GT 740 v2 EVGA FTW 1GB Edition has 384 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 670 PNY 2GB Edition has 1344. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 740 is 462 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 670 is 1317. The GTX 670 having 855 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 670 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GT 740.

The GeForce GT 740 v2 EVGA FTW 1GB Edition requires 64 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 670 PNY 2GB Edition requires 170 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GT 740 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 670. The GTX 670 requires 106 Watts more than the GT 740 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 670 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GT 740.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GT 740 v2 EVGA FTW 1GB Edition is a special edition of the middle-class GeForce GT 740 v2.
This edition comes with a custom cooling solution which will not yield any performance boost, as GeForce GT 740 v2 does not benefit from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 993MHz to 1202MHz, while the memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate an extreme performance boost of up to 14% making it almost 10% faster than a GeForce GTX 650.
GeForce GTX 670 PNY 2GB Edition is a renamed GeForce GTX 670 with no new features - not even a new cooling system. Its performance is exactly like the reference card.
