In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition.

The GTX 750 has a 451 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 470, but the GeForce GTX 470 has 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 750. As a result, the GeForce GTX 470 exhibits a 0.1 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 750. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 750 has a 451 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 470, but the GeForce GTX 470 has 24 more Render Output Units than the GTX 750. As a result, the GeForce GTX 470 exhibits a 7.4 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 750. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 750 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce GTX 470, and so the GTX 750 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce GTX 470 when running the latest games.

The GeForce GTX 470 has 256 MB more video memory than the GTX 750, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce GTX 470 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce GTX 470 has 53.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 750, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 470 is much better than the GTX 750.

The GeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition has 512 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 470 has 448. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 750 is 786 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 470 is 544. The GTX 750 having 242 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce GTX 470 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 750 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GTX 470. This means that the GTX 750 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GTX 470. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GTX 750 should consume less power than the GeForce GTX 470.

The GeForce GTX 470 requires 215 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 750. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 750 and a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the GeForce GTX 470. The GeForce GTX 470 has been recommended a PSU with 150 Watts more than the GTX 750. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce GTX 470 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 750.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class GeForce GTX 750.
This edition comes with a custom cooling cooling solution which by itself will allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 750 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Furthermore, it comes overclocked out of the box in the central unit that was raised from 1020MHz to 1058MHz, while the Turbo Boost is now of 1137MHz, instead of 1085MHz. The operating memory clock was left untouched.
Further overclocking can be achieved easily, as the GPU has great OC potential.
Benchmarks indicate its performance is around 4% better than the reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 and thus this card is slightly faster than Radeon R7 260X.
GeForce GTX 470 is a high-end GPU based on the 40nm Fermi architecture.
It's based on the Fermi GF100 Core and offers 480 Shader Processing Units, 56 TMUs and 40 ROPs. The central unit runs at 607MHz and the memory clock operates at 837MHz.
Compared to GeForce GTX 480, it delivers considerably worse performance due to the lower SPU count and lower clocked central unit and therefore also lower Shaders speed.
Most modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution. However, some will require reduced settings to be played optimally.
