In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7720.

The GTX 750 has a 218 MHz higher core clock speed but 8 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 7720. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 750 manages to provide 0.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 750 has a 218 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 7720, but the Radeon HD 7720 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 750. As a result, the Radeon HD 7720 exhibits a 10 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 750. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 750 was released less than a year after the Radeon HD 7720, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition and the Radeon HD 7720 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The Radeon HD 7720 has 54.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 750, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 7720 is much better than the GTX 750.

The GeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition has 512 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7720 has 800. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 750 is 786 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7720 is 336. The GTX 750 having 450 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Radeon HD 7720 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 750 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 7720. This means that the GTX 750 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 7720.

The Radeon HD 7720 requires 150 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 750. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 750 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Radeon HD 7720. The Radeon HD 7720 has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the GTX 750. The difference is significant enough that the Radeon HD 7720 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 750.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 750 Gigabyte OC 1GB Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class GeForce GTX 750.
This edition comes with a custom cooling cooling solution which by itself will allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 750 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Furthermore, it comes overclocked out of the box in the central unit that was raised from 1020MHz to 1058MHz, while the Turbo Boost is now of 1137MHz, instead of 1085MHz. The operating memory clock was left untouched.
Further overclocking can be achieved easily, as the GPU has great OC potential.
Benchmarks indicate its performance is around 4% better than the reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 and thus this card is slightly faster than Radeon R7 260X.
Radeon HD 7720 is a fast-middle-class GFX that's still based on the 40nm, Terascale 2 architecture.
It's based on the Barts LE Core and offers 800 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 32 ROPs, on a 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 840MHz and the memory clock operates at 1050MHz.
Therefore, it's a renamed Radeon HD 6790 and will offer exactly the same performance.
As based on the Barts LE Core, it performs better than Radeon HD 7750 (which goes against the naming) but falls behind Radeon HD 7770. It's expected to consume 150 Watt - more than Radeon HD 7750/Radeon HD 7770 and heat more, due to the higher manufacturing process. As based on the Terascale 2 architecture, it will not have nearly as much driver support as the GCN based GPUs.
