In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP are noticeably better than the Intel HD Graphics P4700.

The HD 3850 has a 318 MHz higher core clock speed and 12 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD Graphics P4700. This results in the HD 3850 providing 9.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 3850 has a 318 MHz higher core clock speed and 14 more Render Output Units than the HD Graphics P4700. This results in the HD 3850 providing 10 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD Graphics P4700 was released over three years more recently than the HD 3850, and so the HD Graphics P4700 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 3850 when running the latest games.

The HD 3850 has 512 MB video memory, but the HD Graphics P4700 does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD Graphics P4700 has 20 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the HD Graphics P4700 is 127 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3850 is 214. The HD 3850 having 87 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 3850 delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD Graphics P4700.

The HD Graphics P4700 transistor size technology is 33 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 3850. This means that the HD Graphics P4700 is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 3850.

The HD Graphics P4700 requires 86 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the HD Graphics P4700. The HD Graphics P4700 requires 11 Watts more than the HD 3850 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD Graphics P4700 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the HD 3850.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewIntel HD Graphics P4700 are integrated graphics in the Haswell Xeon Server processors.
Their performance depends on the processor they are integrated on, as the latter defines the Base and Boost Clock, as well as on the SYSTEM RAM, which defines the operating memory clock, and whether the GPU accesses a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface.
Best case scenario, the Intel HD Graphics P4700 perform very slightly below Intel HD 4600 Graphics and so most modern demanding games will have to be played with the lowest settings, while a few aren't even playable.
Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
