In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition are massively better than the Intel HD Graphics 4200 Desktop.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 770 MHz higher core clock speed and 28 more Texture Mapping Units than the Graphics 4200. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 30.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 770 MHz higher core clock speed and 22 more Render Output Units than the Graphics 4200. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 22.9 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Graphics 4200 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 550 Ti, and so the Graphics 4200 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 550 Ti.

The Graphics 4200 transistor size technology is 18 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 550 Ti. This means that the Graphics 4200 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 550 Ti.

The HD Graphics 4200 Desktop requires 20 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 550 Ti, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the Graphics 4200.

Mini ReviewIntel HD Graphics 4200 Mobile are integrated graphics in the ULV Haswell Desktop processors.
Their performance depends on the processor they are integrated on, as the latter defines the Base and Boost Clock, as well as on the SYSTEM RAM, which defines the operating memory clock, and whether the GPU accesses a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface.
Best case scenario, the Intel HD Graphics 4200 Desktop perform slightly above Intel HD 4000 Graphics, though some variants actually perform worse and so most modern demanding games will have to be played with the lowest settings, while a few aren't even playable.
GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition is a special edition of the upper-middle-class GeForce GTX 550 Ti. See the standard edition's page for more information.
The new features include an increase in the clock from 900MHz to 970MHz and a new cooling system.
Benchmarks indicate a 4.5% performance boost when compared to the reference card..
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
