In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 3800 series are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 705.

The HD 3800 has no core clock speed set, so any comparison between Texture and Pixel Fill Rates is not currently possible.

The GeForce GT 705 was released over three years more recently than the HD 3800, and so the GeForce GT 705 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 3800 when running the latest games.

The GeForce GT 705 has 512 MB more video memory than the HD 3800, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce GT 705 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce GT 705 has 13.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 3800, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GT 705 is slightly better than the HD 3800.

The GeForce GT 705 has 48 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3800 series has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce GT 705 is 84 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3800 is 0. The GeForce GT 705 having 84 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce GT 705 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 3800.

The GeForce GT 705 transistor size technology is 15 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 3800. This means that the GeForce GT 705 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 3800.

The GeForce GT 705 requires 29 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 3800 series. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GeForce GT 705.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 705 is an Entry-Level Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

It equips a GPU codenamed GF119-300-A1 which has 1 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 48 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 874MHz.

The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 825MHz.

DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 29W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

GeForce GT 705 is essentially a fast GeForce GT 610.
Gaming benchmarks put its performance on average with Radeon HD 6450.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 705.
Radeon HD 3800 Series is not a GPU but instead a combination between Radeon HD 3830, Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870 whose rank is a balance between the three and that exists for System Requirements purposes only.
