In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 PNY Enthusiast 4GB OC Edition.

The GTX 770 has a 53 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780, but the GTX 780 has 64 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 770. As a result, the GTX 780 exhibits a 57.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 770. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 770 has a 53 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780, but the GTX 780 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 770. As a result, the GTX 780 exhibits a 14.4 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 770. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 780 was released less than a year after the GTX 770, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 770 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 780, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GTX 780 has 64 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 770, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 780 is much better than the GTX 770.

The GeForce GTX 770 PNY Enthusiast 4GB OC Edition has 1536 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 770 is 1706 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 780 is 2438. The GTX 780 having 732 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 780 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 770.

The GeForce GTX 770 PNY Enthusiast 4GB OC Edition requires 230 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition requires 250 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 770 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 780. The GTX 780 requires 20 Watts more than the GTX 770 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 780 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GTX 770.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 770 PNY Enthusiast 4GB OC Edition is a special edition of GeForce GTX 770.
This edition comes with a custom dual fan cooling solution which by itself should allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 770 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 1046MHz to 1059MHz while its boost clock is now of 1111MHz and its frame buffer was doubled to 4GB, which will prove useless. The memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a 4% performance boost when compared to the reference card.
GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 780.
This edition comes with a custom double fan cooling solution which will allow a reasonable performance boost from the start, as GeForce GTX 780 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 863MHz to 1006MHz while its boost clock is now of 1058MHz. The memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a 11% performance boost when compared to the reference card and so this edition performs slightly better than GeForce GTX Titan.
