In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 are marginally better than the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP.

The HD 3850 was released less than a year after the Quadro FX 5600, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The Quadro FX 5600 has 1024 MB more video memory than the HD 3850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro FX 5600 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro FX 5600 has 23.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 3850, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro FX 5600 is slightly better than the HD 3850.

The Quadro FX 5600 has 128 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the Quadro FX 5600 is 77 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3850 is 214. The HD 3850 having 137 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro FX 5600 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The HD 3850 transistor size technology is 35 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro FX 5600. This means that the HD 3850 is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro FX 5600. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD 3850 should consume less power than the Quadro FX 5600.

The Quadro FX 5600 requires 171 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the Quadro FX 5600 and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850. The Quadro FX 5600 requires 96 Watts more than the HD 3850 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro FX 5600 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 3850.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewA revolutionary unified architecture, NVIDIA Quadro® FX 5600 and 4600 graphics boards deliver optimized application performance. Combining the industry's most advanced feature set, including largest frame buffers, with a C programming environment, Quadro solutions solve the most complex problems. The reference standard for Shader Model 4.0, Quadro FX 5600 and 4600 enables next generation applications with unprecedented image quality. Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
