In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro K4000M are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce 840M 2GB.

The GeForce 840M 2GB has a 428 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K4000M, but the Quadro K4000M has 56 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce 840M 2GB. As a result, the Quadro K4000M exhibits a 23.4 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GeForce 840M 2GB. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce 840M 2GB has a 428 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K4000M, but the Quadro K4000M has 24 more Render Output Units than the GeForce 840M 2GB. As a result, the Quadro K4000M exhibits a 11 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GeForce 840M 2GB. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce 840M 2GB was released over a year more recently than the Quadro K4000M, and so the GeForce 840M 2GB is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Quadro K4000M.

The Quadro K4000M has 2048 MB more video memory than the GeForce 840M 2GB, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro K4000M also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro K4000M has 73.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 840M 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro K4000M is much better than the GeForce 840M 2GB.

The GeForce 840M 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro K4000M has 960. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 840M 2GB is 583 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro K4000M is 577. The GeForce 840M 2GB having 6 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro K4000M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce 840M 2GB requires 33 Watts to run and the Quadro K4000M requires 100 Watts. The Quadro K4000M requires 67 Watts more than the GeForce 840M 2GB to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro K4000M may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce 840M 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 840M 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
The Maxwell architecture features many improvements and among them is the extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GM108 which has 3 SM activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1029MHz and goes up to 1124MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The Frame Buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1001MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.2 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 33W, it will only be equipped in average sized notebooks.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate its performance is over 20% faster than the older GeForce GT 740M. Therefore, it should match GeForce GT 750M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce 840M 2GB.
Quadro K4000M is a high-end business card based on the 28nm, Kepler architecture.
Technically the successor to the previous Quadro 4000M, it's based on the Kepler GK104 (despite the SPU count) and offers 960 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 32 ROPs, on a 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 600MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 700MHz.
Quadro K4000M's drivers are certified for professional applications. Therefore, and also because it's underclocked, its performance lies closer to GeForce GTX 675M despite the similarities to GeForce GTX 675MX.
