In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro 5010M are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce 840M 2GB.

The GeForce 840M 2GB was released over three years more recently than the Quadro 5010M, and so the GeForce 840M 2GB is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro 5010M when running the latest games.

The Quadro 5010M has 2048 MB more video memory than the GeForce 840M 2GB, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro 5010M also has superior memory performance overall.

The Quadro 5010M has 150.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 840M 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro 5010M is massively better than the GeForce 840M 2GB.

Both the GeForce 840M 2GB and the Quadro 5010M have 384 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GeForce 840M 2GB is 583 and by the Quadro 5010M is 173. Knowing that the shader performance of the GeForce 840M 2GB is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The GeForce 840M 2GB transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro 5010M. This means that the GeForce 840M 2GB is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro 5010M. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GeForce 840M 2GB should consume less power than the Quadro 5010M.

The GeForce 840M 2GB requires 33 Watts to run and the Quadro 5010M requires 100 Watts. The Quadro 5010M requires 67 Watts more than the GeForce 840M 2GB to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro 5010M may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce 840M 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 840M 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
The Maxwell architecture features many improvements and among them is the extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GM108 which has 3 SM activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1029MHz and goes up to 1124MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The Frame Buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1001MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.2 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 33W, it will only be equipped in average sized notebooks.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate its performance is over 20% faster than the older GeForce GT 740M. Therefore, it should match GeForce GT 750M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce 840M 2GB.
