In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 840M 2GB are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX.

The GeForce 840M 2GB was released over three years more recently than the Go 7950, and so the GeForce 840M 2GB is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Go 7950 when running the latest games.

The GeForce 840M 2GB has 1536 MB more video memory than the Go 7950, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The Go 7950 has 28.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 840M 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the Go 7950 is slightly better than the GeForce 840M 2GB.

The GeForce 840M 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units but the Go 7950 does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The GeForce 840M 2GB requires 33 Watts to run and the GeForce Go 7950 GTX requires 45 Watts. The Go 7950 requires 12 Watts more than the GeForce 840M 2GB to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Go 7950 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GeForce 840M 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 840M 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
The Maxwell architecture features many improvements and among them is the extremely large L2 Cache which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GM108 which has 3 SM activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1029MHz and goes up to 1124MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The Frame Buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1001MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.2 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 33W, it will only be equipped in average sized notebooks.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate its performance is over 20% faster than the older GeForce GT 740M. Therefore, it should match GeForce GT 750M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a notebook with GeForce 840M 2GB.
GeForce Go 7950 GTX is a high-end-class level GPU.
It can use up to 512MB of dedicated video memory, and it's only available with a DDR3 memory type + a 256 bits Memory Bus Width.
Due to its features and unlike the previous GeForce Go models, it should be able to play today's games, that use DirectX 9 (e.g. Sims 3, Anno 1404 and even Crysis) at the low or medium settings.
