In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Edition are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 6850.

The GTX 670 has a 205 MHz higher core clock speed and 64 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 6850. This results in the GTX 670 providing 72.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 670 has a 205 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 6850 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 670 providing 6.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 670 was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 6850, and so the GTX 670 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Radeon HD 6850.

The GTX 670 has 1024 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 6850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 670 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 670 has 64.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 6850, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 670 is much better than the Radeon HD 6850.

The GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Edition has 1344 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 6850 has 960. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 670 is 1422 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 6850 is 372. The GTX 670 having 1050 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 670 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon HD 6850.

The GTX 670 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 6850. This means that the GTX 670 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 6850.

The Radeon HD 6850 requires 127 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 670. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Radeon HD 6850, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the GTX 670.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Edition is a Special Edition of the powerful GeForce GTX 670. See the standard version for more information about it.
The new features include an increase in the core-clock that went from 915MHz to 980MHz while the Turbo Boost is now of 1058MHz. A 20% more effective cooler is also included.
The performance boost is significant and around 5% when compared to the standard GTX 670.
Most demanding games will run at the highest settings.
Radeon HD 6850 is a Performance GPU part of the Radeon HD 6000 Series based on the Southern Islands 40nm architecture. The Barts Pro core comes packed with 960 Shader Processing Units, 48TMUs and a nice count of 32 ROPs, since the card features a 256-bit memory interface. The central unit is clocked at 775Mhz and Memory clocked at 100Mhz. HD 6850 features fast GDDR5 Memory, and has the required bandwidth for Full HD gaming, although Modern Demanding games like Crysis 3 will need lowered AA techniques to achieve a playable frame rate.
