In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8470D are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 620.

The Radeon HD 8470D has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 620, but the GeForce GT 620 has 4 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 8470D. As a result, the GeForce GT 620 exhibits a 1.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the Radeon HD 8470D. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon HD 8470D has a 100 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 620 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the Radeon HD 8470D providing 0.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon HD 8470D was released over a year more recently than the GeForce GT 620, and so the Radeon HD 8470D is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce GT 620.

The GeForce GT 620 has 1024 MB video memory, but the Radeon HD 8470D does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Radeon HD 8470D has 192 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GT 620 has 96. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8470D is 100 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GT 620 is 134. The GeForce GT 620 having 34 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Radeon HD 8470D performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Radeon HD 8470D transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GT 620. This means that the Radeon HD 8470D is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GT 620. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the Radeon HD 8470D should consume less power than the GeForce GT 620.

The Radeon HD 8470D requires 65 Watts to run and the GeForce GT 620 requires 49 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GeForce GT 620, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the Radeon HD 8470D. The Radeon HD 8470D requires 16 Watts more than the GeForce GT 620 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Radeon HD 8470D to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GeForce GT 620.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 8470D is an embedded Graphics Card on the middle-class Richland APU A6-6400K.
They offer 192 Shader Processing Units, 12 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The memory interface depends on whether or not the system's RAM is dual channelled.
While the central unit runs at 800MHz, since the GFX doesn't have dedicated memory, the bandwidth will depend on the system ram speed which can be up to 1866MHz (the max speed supported by the CPU). Therefore, the max operating memory clock is 933MHz.
Its performance is considerably worse than Intel HD 4600 and only very slightly better than previous Radeon HD 7540D.
Overview
GeForce GT 620 is an Entry-Level Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Fermi GF108-100-KB-A1 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 700MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 500MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 49W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance is somewhat better than Radeon HD 7470.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 620.
