In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 8470D.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 170 MHz higher core clock speed and 20 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 8470D. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 21.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 170 MHz higher core clock speed and 20 more Render Output Units than the Radeon HD 8470D. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 20.1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon HD 8470D was released over a year more recently than the GTX 550 Ti, and so the Radeon HD 8470D is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 550 Ti.

The GTX 550 Ti has 1024 MB video memory, but the Radeon HD 8470D does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

Both the Radeon HD 8470D and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition have 192 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 550 Ti is 372 and by the Radeon HD 8470D is 372. Mini ReviewRadeon HD 8470D is an embedded Graphics Card on the middle-class Richland APU A6-6400K.
They offer 192 Shader Processing Units, 12 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The memory interface depends on whether or not the system's RAM is dual channelled.
While the central unit runs at 800MHz, since the GFX doesn't have dedicated memory, the bandwidth will depend on the system ram speed which can be up to 1866MHz (the max speed supported by the CPU). Therefore, the max operating memory clock is 933MHz.
Its performance is considerably worse than Intel HD 4600 and only very slightly better than previous Radeon HD 7540D.
GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition is a special edition of the upper-middle-class GeForce GTX 550 Ti. See the standard edition's page for more information.
The new features include an increase in the clock from 900MHz to 970MHz and a new cooling system.
Benchmarks indicate a 4.5% performance boost when compared to the reference card..
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
